“What time are you arriving?” she asked enthusiastically.
“That’s what I’m calling about” he said his tone changing.
Mackenzie’s heart sank; she knew she was just about to be disappointed.
“What’s wrong?” she asked her voice a little shaky.
“I can’t come today” he said slowly.
“Why?”
“Something came up” he explained.
“Um….okay” she responded hardly able to keep the disappointment from her voice.
“I’m sorry sweetie, I was looking forward to seeing you” he apologized.
“Yeah……me too” she said as the tears rolled down her cheeks.
“I’ll be there soon though”
“Okay… listen I have to go” she sobbed.
“Sweetie, don’t cry you will see me sooner than you think” he promised.
“I believe you” she sniffed.
“Sweetie?” he said.
“Yes” she responded.
“I love you”
