It felt like abandonment, like they never wanted her to begin with. If they had really loved her, they would have done whatever in their power to make sure that the family stayed together but instead they chose to go away on one of their missions, never to be heard from again.
The tears streamed down her caramel cheeks as she rolled her suitcase to the door.
“This is silly” she thought to herself, crying over people whom you have never met, people who have probably forgotten you exist. She opened her bedroom door and wheeled her suitcase into the hall wall exerting quite a little bit of force in order to overcome the friction the floor carpet was producing. She got to the end of the hall and grabbed the handle of the case with one hand as she used her other hand to quickly brush the tears off her face. She drew in one big breath and composed herself before beginning her descent of the stairs. Her foster father Pierce was waiting for her at the foot of the stairs. His concerned blue eyes pierced through the rims of his glasses as he stared at his daughter. His heart sank, he could tell something was bothering her but he didn’t want to ask her out of the fear of making it worse. He knew Sheryl very well, more than most parents would know their daughter and in moments like this she just wanted to be left alone. It was her way of dealing with her issues, cry in private but show a brave face in public. Sometimes he wished she would open up, but she preferred to keep things bottled up. As long as she could stay in control of her emotions, she felt at least there was some part of her life that wasn’t chaotic.
“Are you okay baby bear?” he asked softly as she stepped down onto the lounge floor. Sheryl looked up him and smiled. He always called her by that name and...........
