About three weeks later Sheryl and Renee were sitting at a canteen table just outside the main school building. School had not been stressful so far, in fact Sheryl was finding the place quite pleasant, the teachers and continuing students were very friendly and easy going, except Ms. Witt. Sheryl did not understand the problem that woman had with her. From the get go, she made it her initiative to single out Sheryl from the class and ridicule her in some way. She didn’t understand why, Sheryl had done nothing but try to please her teacher. She always handed in assignments on time, always answered her questions, in face she was the perfect student. Yet for some reason Ms. Witt was never satisfied. Sheryl didn’t know her from Adam so she couldn’t assume it was something that had happened in their past. She had even thought about confronting her and asking her if there was something she did to offend her. But after careful consideration, Sheryl decided to let her be. She would do her part and be the student Ms. Witt required of her and hope that in time the tension would subside. Another thing that annoyed her and that she couldn’t quite comprehend was Ms. Witt’s affection for Lance. He was her blue eyed boy, he could do no wrong. When he was late for class, she said nothing. When another student who hadn’t quite touched her soft spot was late, she sent them back. When Sheryl answered question in class she merely gave her an acknowledging nod. When Lance answered a question she would say with a warm inviting smile.
“Excellent, how very clever you are Lance”
Sheryl would roll her eyes in disgust. She had come to realize that for this reason, she somewhat resented him. She tried so hard yet she got nothing, not even a well done, he barely said anything but he got all the praise. What made it worse was that he didn’t even seem to notice the cold shoulder she was giving him. He still.......
