Universal Warriors (Chapter 13, Page 80)

...had not realized when he had actually started to fall for her, maybe it was the time they spent talking at his house when she had been in recovery, maybe it happened when they spent time on the project, maybe it was her smile that captured him, he didn’t know and he didn’t care.
All he knew was that she made him laugh, the fact that she didn’t worship him like other girls made him feel human in the most amazing way. The fact that she talked to him and told him what she thought without a moment’s pause made their friendship feel genuine and real. She didn’t talk to him because he was rich or good looking but because of what he was inside. He had seen her warm up to him slowly and he had loved every moment of it. But he felt guilty, he felt guilty because he knew that their meeting wasn’t by chance, that he had initially shown interest in her not because he had naturally felt the urge to but because he had been instructed to do so. He knew his feelings were real but the circumstances of their meeting were a lie. He wondered if she would understand, if she would believe him if he told her the whole truth. He was afraid at the prospect or the slightest chance of losing her.
“This is unprofessional” he thought to himself. He wasn’t supposed to fall for her; he wasn’t supposed to feel this way. The first thing they had told them in training was ‘Do not get attached’ and here he was falling for her hook, line and sinker.
He pulled himself out of bed and went into his bathroom. He turned on the shower tap. He felt the water for the right temperature. When it was hot enough he stripped and stepped into the shower. He let the hot water splash against his face and body. He knew he had put his personal feelings aside and complete the mission even if it affected his future with Sheryl. He had to act soon, very soon.
