Universal Warriors (Chapter 17, Page 105)

....believe he could still make her cry even after all these years. She hated that he had this power over her; that all he had to do was raise his voice and call her some name and she broke down in tears. She had tried to get stronger over the years; tried to face him and not cry but she always did. She didn’t understand why what she tried to do for him was never enough; she didn’t understand why she wasn’t enough. No matter how hard she tried there was always something she wasn’t doing right.
When she was younger; she remembered times when he would just lose his temper over the littlest thing. She specifically remembered an incident where he had burst into her room early in the morning and woken her up. ‘Why do you sleep so much?’ he had shouted at her. ‘You are growing up; you need to learn to take responsibility’ he had said. She had quickly gotten out of bed and stood at attention as he went on and on about how one must learn to be responsible and that she had to stop being lazy. He had told her to go and make him his morning coffee.
Renée had run to the kitchen and plugged the kettle; she had climbed over the kitchen counter and taken the sugar and coffee tins from the cabinet and mixed the ingredients in his favorite mug. The tears had streamed down her cheeks as she poured the hot water from the kettle into mug. She quickly mixed the coffee and just at that moment he had walked into the kitchen. ‘Where is my coffee?’ he had barked. Renée had picked up the mug to give it to him but had accidently dropped it because the mug had burnt her finger tips due to its hot contents.
‘You stupid girl’ he had said his eyes flashing with anger.
‘I’m sorry’ she had quickly apologized and bent down to the floor to pick up the broken pieces of the mug.
